rough times

Looking back at this past holiday weekend it didnt turn out anyway that I would have liked it too. Didn't get to see anyone, which has added to the loneliness and the boredom I've experienced here in my new home.

I've been here a week and the work aspect has been going well, its just that I have no real social life here. My social life stems up the peeps from EMU and its too difficult to see them because they all have schedules and things to do of their own. So this leads me back to square one where its been me spending a lot of time lying around on my futon being tremendously bored and trying to entertain myself while I'm not working.

So anyways what exactly have I done this weekend - hmmmmm a whole lot of nothing really. i've been so bored i really cant even remember anything ive done besides play a few video games and make meals. argh

Earlier today A made a comment to me responding to my away msg about returning to the world of boredom. She told me I had like 400 friends and that I shouldnt be bored. Why that may be very well true, the fact that i don't know anyone around here doesnt bode to favorably for me.

Tomorrow its back to work - I have to work at this track meet that our paper sponsors called the Daily Telegram Individual Invitational, which is like an all star track meet with the top eight performers competing in each event. The meet is at Adrian High School, so a short commute for tomorrow. The meet is the prime focus on Wednesday's paper and I believe I'm doing a column for the issue, so lets hope I can generate some ideas and get a decent topic.

I'm not sure when my off day will be for the week, but hopefully its a day that will allow me to hit Comerica Park up to catch a game. Or even hit the alley - I havent bowled in eons. And that could help solve my boredom issues. Anyways I'll stop writing and try to find something to keep me occupied.

killing time

Since it has been a lonely few days for me, I decided to make a post of songs on my windows media player with the word lonely in it (hey im bored, i got the time to do these things).

So here are the songs, with some of the lyrics from them

Lonely No More - Rob Thomas
"I dont want to be lonely no more, i dont wanna have to pay for this, i dont want another lover at my door, just another heartache on my lips"

Lonely - Akon (or more appropriately alvin and the chipmunks b/c thats what he sounds like)
"Lonely, i'm so lonely i have nobody to call my own, im so lonely"

This song isnt really me - i just like the lonely, im so lonely part - and it along with the Rob Thomas song are prolly my favorites of all these songs.

Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely - Backstreet Boys (the A's favorite group)
"Show me the meaning of being lonely, its just a feeling I need to walk with. Tell me why I cant be there where you are, theres something missing in my heart."

I like the last sentence of this lyric I posted

Sick of Being Lonely - Field Mob
The title is good enough - no need to divulge into any lyrics

I get so lonely - Janet Jackson
"I get so lonely, cant let just anybody hold me. You are the one that lives in me my dear I want no one but you."

Classic Janet - good song

Nobody Wants to be Lonely - Ricky Martin & Christina Aguilera
"Nobody wants to be lonely, nobody wants to cry, My body is longing to hold you, so bad it hurts inside. Time is precious and its slipping away and I've been waiting for you all my life. Nobody wants to be lonely so why dont you let me love you"

Old school song

Argh

So when trying to post this the first time, my stupid ass lost all the content and now I sit here retyping an entry in which I already had completed

Argh!! Anyways I was talking about the Adrian Maples Softball Tournament which I covered yesterday at Adrian High School. It was where I spent most my day, and it wasnt bad at all. Adrian ended up winning the tournament and I ended up pulling a pretty good story out of it which is linked to this page.

Story link

The last game of the tournament was just awful - Farmington was horrible and made so many mistakes. I was actually expecting them to be a pretty good team. Guess I was wrong. After my tournament wrapped up I stopped over at the baseball tournament to see my editor Sean and see how the games were going. The Blissfield coach got his 900th win - he prolly shoulda got it at the game I was at on Wednesday but the team came out flat.

And the people of Adrian were very helpful and so nice and helped me out with all I needed. Always a plus when you are new to a town and covering events.

When I went to the office yesterday, I got my head shot picture taken for anytime I have columns or stories that require my headshot. I went the hard approach and didnt smile in my picture - Remind me to never do that again. The pic prolly looks horrible but what can you do.
While at the office I saw the very end of the Yankees-Red Sox game - 17-1 Boston. What a thrashing. and 27 hits too. Crazy crazy.

I also got my work email address yesterday - its brian@lenconnect.com

After I got off work and came home for a minute I went exploring around Adrian for a bit. I went to the Adrian Mall which was very similar to the Orchards Mall in Benton Harbor due to the respect that there are the same three department stores (Elder Beerman, JCPenney and Sears) That is where all the similarities end because stores in the Orchards Mall struggle to stay open. And the Adrian Mall has a lot higher quality stores like American Eagle, Aeropostale, Finish Line, Sam Goody, a Gamefrenzy and a few other tight places.

While I was out I went to Meijer to go pick up a newspaper since mine was missing from my doorway when I got off work. I hate newspaper thieves. While at Meijer I ran into the only two other people I really know in Adrian - Carey McAdam and her fiance Eli. That was pretty tight and I talked to them for awhile and they told me to hit them up if I needed anything or got lonely.

Alight time to roll for now - Go Pistons tonight! Make Stan Van Gundy eat his words talking shit about Pistons fans.

why arent fast food restaurants open??

So I get off work at about 12:15 tonight and I want to go grab a quick snack. But theres a problem - nothing in freakin Adrian is open. I leave work and head south on M-52 - BK , Wendys, Arbys McDonalds are all closed. Taco Bell is open but the line of cars extends all the way out to the street. Then Tim Hortons is open as well is Subway (who the hell goes to Subway for late night munchies).

Im pissed so I decide to head on M-52 north because I know there is another McDonalds and Burger King on the north side of town - those are both closed too, but sure enough the Subway right by that one is open too.

Now clearly Adrian is a college town - has two colleges (Siena Heights and Adrian) and a community college (Jackson Community College) I figured they would have a fast food chain open

Anyways I resort to heading down south again on M-52 and then heading to a Rally's right off 223 and grab a bite to eat there

But yea work wasnt too bad today - I was the only one doing desk work tonight and took all of two phone calls from coaches. I ended up writing up a lot of the staff reports for tomorrows paper, looking over the sports page once Sean had it designed. Not too bad of a night all and all besides the fast food issues

the first post

This blog site seems to look pretty slick so I want to check this out as opposed to livejournal

So first we will put my most recent article on this:

So I've lived in my new home of Adrian, Michigan for a week. So far so good. People seem to be friendly around here, despite still knowing very few people
When I went to pay my rent for June today I ran into one of the maintenance men who has been real great. I met him when I moved in last Friday and he has always waved or came to talk to me when he has seen me. He asked me how work was going for me today and was wondering if I had written anything yet because he had been lookin for my name. Pretty cool so far.

Thanks Amy and Kimmy for a great night last nite up in Ypsi - definitely fun
